The recently reported new 5 year deal between Girona airport and Ryanair has collapsed, meaning the airline now will cease to operate many of it destinations at the airport blaming the Catalan government for not honouring its agreement.
From as early as the end of February Ryanair is to start cutting 18 of it 64 routes and reduce frequencies on 17 other routes. You can read the full story over at Ryanair

It seems this Catalan government are on a self distruct mission,Ryanair brings millions to the area, and with one of the highest unemployment rates in europe, you think they would jump at the chance for more tourisum. This government are distroying the area with there new rules on this and that, especally re. bars, ect,and if you complain you get targeted even more!!

I can't believe that Gatwick is one of the destinations being cancelled, this is a big blow, I hate flying from Stansted or Luton.

I hope this could be that both Ryanair and the Catalan Government are just flexing their muscles and that soon they will kiss and make up.

Having said that I believe Ryanair did the same thing with a French (or was it Belgian) airport and they really did walk away.
