A day in the clouds!

On a long narrow peninsula looking down on the Panta de Sau reservoir is where the 11th century monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres is situated, when you reach the monastery there is a visitors centre, restaurant and toilets which we were very surprised to see! (Where do these people live who work up there!)
We visited Sant Pere on Thursday 27th Nov and also the same day we found another road which took us higher still onto the village of Tavertet from where the fantastic views stretch out in front of you for miles and miles...standing on the edge of the cliffs in Tavertet you are 1,000 metres above sea level in total!

To reach both these places there are some really scary narrow roads weaving all around the mountainsides but the scenery is fantastic once you get to the top! It wasn't an ideal day for taking photos owing to the dark stormy skies but the light was changing all the time so all in all we don't think the photos turned out too bad. We were actually looking down on the clouds at one point, so couldn't see what was below until it started clearing....then what a view it was!

If like me you like to see views of the mountains then there are some fantastic places to visit in Catalonia, but I think the views we saw from Tavertet are the best so far...Just amazing!

Lloret de Mar weather

These recent photos of Lloret now show that the weather has changed, instead of the bright sunny skies which it seemed would never end and warm temperatures its now turned very cloudy and much cooler. Yesterday (Thurs 27th Nov) there was a massive downpour of rain lasting for about 15-20 minutes, but in other parts of Spain however they are experiencing much worse with severe weather warnings in several places. Today in Lloret we have similar conditions as yesterday and again rain is forecast later today and also for the next few days.

Castell de Aro - Catalonia Village

Away from the town of Playa de Aro on the Costa Brava you will find a lovely old part of the town called Castell de Aro, standing 3km inland on the C31 road we pulled into the village as we were leaving Playa de Aro and what a lovely surprise we got!

At the centre of the village stands the large Medieval Castle and Gothic church of Santa Maria both well restored buildings, as are many of the buildings in the village some of which date back to the 15th century. If you are ever passing by on the C31 then take just a little while of your time to have look round this village...I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Winter time in Lloret de Mar

During the summer months in Lloret de Mar everyone is dashing through the crowded streets on their way to the beach or looking around the shops without even noticing just what else the town has to offer, but now the winter is here we have a much clearer view of the true Lloret de Mar!

Taking a walk through the old part of town and all you have to do is simply look up above street level and you will see some fantastic grand old buildings and balconies....such a lovely change from the modern apartment blocks/hotels etc which have sadly replaced many of these buildings over the years.

The parish church and grounds of Sant Roma.

The fantastic long spacious Lloret beach and seafront view, looking very different to when its full of holidaymakers topping up their tans!
