Stormy September weather

After yesterdays non stop heavy rain and storms which caused havoc with power cuts, floods and transport cancellations in some parts of the province, today in Lloret the sky was blue and the sun shone once again. Down on the beach holiday makers were making the most of the good weather but with the red flags flying the lifeguards were having a tough job of keeping everyone out of the dangerous rough sea.

Llorets attractions - free entrance

It seems that quite a number of people have taken advantage of the free entrance to the gardens and museums in Lloret de Mar. We visited the Maritime Museum on the seafront in Lloret and also as we are lucky enough live just minutes away we visited the tower of Sant Joan and also Santa Clotilde Gardens, it's always a nice way to have a leisurely stroll around the gardens which we do quite often but it's even better when it's free! As usual we went with our cameras to take a few shots of the scenery and here are the results....

A day at Castellfolit de la Roca

Earlier this week we took to the road and headed inland towards Girona and then on towards Banyoles and Besalu, bypassing these places we came to Castellfollit de la Roca - the most unusual place in this region we have come across yet. We had been told about this place previously and decided we must see it for ourselves...and so glad we did!

The town which is almost a kilometre long is actually built on the narrow cliff where two rivers the Fluvia and the Toronell flow on either side more than 50mts below! At the narrowest end of the town stands the local church with its 4 sided bell tower, where climbing to the top gives you spectacular views of the countryside, the mountains beyond and the rooftops of the medieval town as seen in the above photo.

This local lady has opened her home to sell her fruit and homemade produce to any passersby.

Sant Francesc Beach - Blanes

Not far from Lloret towards Blanes is the beautiful little beach of Sant Francesc, surrounded by picturesque woodland (and not forgetting the large expensive villas!) but there is one problem...and that is unless you have some form of transport then it is quite hard to reach from Lloret de Mar or Blanes...not even the boats stop at this beach. There is a very nice restaurant right on the beach where you can get a menu del dia, snack or a drink, so it could be a nice place to bring any friends or family who maybe be visiting you.
Other amenities at the beach are parking for cars & bikes, toilets, showers, sunbeds and pedalos.

Today in Lloret de Mar

Towards the end of September we would now be expecting the temperatures to be on the cooler side especially during the evening and night time but no it's still very hot and humid. These photos are from Lloret seafront today where there is now lots of space on the beach compared to what we have seen during August and the first half of September.
This car park near the beach now has lots of empty spaces...as from the 16th September you can park for free for the first hour.

September weather in Lloret

Last night we had one of the worst storms for quite some time with loud cracks of thunder lightening which lit up the sky so much it looked like daylight and to top it all hailstones!
Judging by who was online during the early hours of the morning it kept a lot of people from sleeping - me included. This morning however we have a much fresher start to what looks like is going to turn out to be a lovely September day with the current temperature a nice cool 17c and expected to rise to 27c.

This photo is a screen shot from the live webcam showing Lloret de Mar beach taken at 8.30 this morning.

Correbous Vidreres

This is the first time I've come across this annual event which takes place in the nearby little town of Vidreres...thanks to Val who brought it to my attention! The event got off to a start at 7am this morning with the main feature the 'Bull Run' - we didn't actually get there while much later by that time the it was the horses which were putting on a fantastic show in the temporary 'bull ring'
For those who would like to visit the event next year here is a link to their website with more info...Carrebous Vidreres
