Once again the beaches of Lloret have been awarded the Blue Flag, with the exception of one- Cala Canyelles, only reason is that the area is a licensed port and cars can be parked on the beach. The council will in the near future try to rectify these problems.
All along the Catalan coast 89 beaches have the Blue flag this year with 28 of these awarded to the Girona coast. The Blue Flag is an International standard awarded for the quality of the sea, maintenance of the facilities and necessary equipment for safety etc.

A day at Empuriabrava.
About a I hour and 30minute drive up the coast from Lloret is the upmarket resort of Empuriabrava situated in the bay of Roses - a totally different resort to any other on the Costa Brava. Here you not only need a parking place for your very expensive car but a mooring for your very expensive boat/yacht right outside your very expensive villa or apartment!
Just 2 of the nice cars we saw today.
Part of the great shopping area of Empuriabrava.
With its 5,000 moorings Empuriabrava is one of the largest marinas in the world.

Holiday Time in Lloret!
This coming Tuesday will be a public holiday for many workers..banks and official departments will be closed for the day, normal shops however do usually stay open or will perhaps open for the morning and close at lunch time. Out and about this weekend up and down the coast its quite busy as many workers have taken extra time off work and are enjoying a full four days holiday. Sadly though todays weather could have been better for them, we do have quite a lot of cloud about just now but the temperatures are in the 20s...still good enough to get out and enjoy a leisurely time on the beach or the many events which are taking place during this holiday time!
Todays Antiques fair at the nearby resort of Santa Susanna.

On the beach in Lloret
Considering its been a slow start to the season in Lloret today it seems that the tourist season is now here judging by the amount of folks on the beach! The weather has not been as good as it should be so maybe everyone had the same thought and tried to get a bit of sun while it was out. Today it began to look quite stormy as the day went on...and yes we did have another heavy downpour late this afternoon. Tomorrows forecast however is said to be fine and sunny all day with a high of 27ºc so everyone can head back to the beach and pick up where they left off today!
Even the boats were doing a good trade today! |

Palafolls near Lloret de Mar
Only about 20 minutes from Lloret is a small town called Palafolls, most of you who are familiar with this region will have heard of Palafolls but probably won't recall why! Palafolls is home to one of the most popular attractions of the Costa Brava...Marineland. If you have visited Marineland then you may have noticed the ruins of the castle high on a hill overlooking the town. If you take a trip up to the castle on a clear day the views from the top are amazing! You have full 360º uninterrupted views of the mountains to the back and great views out to sea. There is parking at the top so it would make a fantastic spot for a family weekend picnic.
