Lloret de Carnival 2013

The end of the carnival festival was marked last night with the traditional burying of the sardine...(a very strange custom!!) This involves a large model of a sardine in a coffin carried through the streets of Lloret towards the Town Hall after which its placed on a fire on the beach. Wailing mourners follow the fish to its final resting place, they are then treated to a funeral meal of fish, chick peas and the usual accompaniment to any meal here....lots of wine! The food is kindly donated by the Xino Xano walking group.

Lloret Carnival 2013 Videos

Lloret de Mar Carnival 2013

Its carnival weekend in Lloret and in the town there's a great party atmosphere as almost every other person is walking around dressed in some sort of fancy dress outfit! This is the most colorful event in the Lloret de Mar annual calendar, with everyone joining in the fun! We were there to take these photos of Saturdays parade when the procession made their way along the seafront at 4pm. It was a glorious sunny day but by the time the parade had finished 2 hours later it was feeling very cold, and with some of the competitors only dressed in flimsy outfits I did feel quite sorry for them....so well done to all those who still managed to entertain everyone and keep smiling till the very end!

For lots more colourful carnival photos and videos take a look at the Lloret de Mar Carnival web page.

Its been a long day!

Lloret de Mar Weather

Well I must say that after the strong winds of yesterday things are very much calmer today! Although we had beautiful blue skies there was a cold northerly wind blowing which has caused a few trees to fall and also damage has been caused to a few bikes which have been blown over.

Burns Night in Lloret

Last night Rabbies Bar in Lloret de Mar held their Burns supper night to celebrate a special day in the Scottish calendar - the birthday of Rabbie Burns. The traditional meal of haggis, tatties and neeps was dished up for everyone there....it was great night with standing room only! So on behalf of everyone thanks to Hammy, Linda, Colin and also the 'dinner ladies' who dished out the food they all worked so hard to make it such an enjoyable evening.

Bus from Girona or Barcelona to Andorra or Perpignan

Arriving at Girona or Barcelona and travelling onto either Andorra or Perpignan? then there is an excellent bus service operated by FrogBus! From Girona the bus picks up at the airport and also the bus and train station. The journey to Andorra from Girona can take as little as 3.5 hrs!
This bus service could also benefit rugby fans who travel to this area to watch their teams playing the Catalan Dragons at Perpignan. In Lloret de Mar and other nearby resorts we often have rugby fans who have booked a hotel for few days with intentions of travelling on to Perpignan for their game, with the FrogBus from Girona you can be in Perpignan in less than 2 hours. More details along with ticket prices and times for any of these journeys can be found on the FrogBus website.

Just now if you book a return Journey online before 25th January you will only pay  for a single trip, for example - Girona to Perpignan will only cost you €18 for the round trip, a great price! This price is available for any journey taken before March 31st

Lloret de Mar in the winter.

Who would have thought that this is same place which has had so much bad publicity in the past! Lloret is
known for its great nightlife and clubbing scene which may deter some people from taking their holidays here,   but what they dont know is that it is a holiday resort which caters for everyone! We have great restaurants, shops of every description in traffic free shopping areas, and top class hotels...there's no need to be amongst the noise of the night club area. You can come to Lloret and have a very relaxing holiday if you wish. These early morning winter scenes show just what a beautiful place Lloret is!

Shopping at Lloret's Indoor Market

Almost all the towns in Spain have their own indoor market where the locals will do most of their weekly shopping for meat, fish, fruit and veg. These indoor markets are usually open from Monday to Saturday but as well as these there are weekly outdoor markets which are very popular with tourists. Lloret's municipal market is situated in the old part of town just a few minutes walk from the bus station. Find the markets location by taking a look at this MAP which also shows all the best supermarkets in Lloret de Mar.
