Lloret/Fenals Triathlon 2013

It was a very early start for the competitors in this years Triathlon in Fenals this morning, they took to the sea at 9am for the first leg of the event. I'm glad to say the weather was very good for them as we have had a few dismal days just recently. Meanwhile in the background a 'tall ship' with all its sails out could be seen as they were swimming across the bay...possibly just leaving the port of Palamos further up the coast near the French border!
A close up the ship, brought in by the longer lens on the camera!

The first swimmers emerging from the sea....now for the 20km bike ride for the 2nd part of the event.

Racing towards their bikes, at the same time removing their wet suits....

Cycling gear on, now speeding around the streets of Fenals !
Well done to all who took part!!

Lloret de Mar Events

This Sunday 12th May we can see the 4th edition of the Lloret de Mar triathlon which will again be mainly centred around the  Fenals beach area. The triathlon consists of three sports, the first of which will be  the 700 mts swim (blue route) out into the sea from Fenals beach after which we will see all the competitors race to their bikes for the 20km race along the roads of Lloret (green route)  Once back to base they will then have to complete a 5km run for the 3rd and final part of the triathlon (red route)
So a warning to all locals and visitors to Lloret over the weekend as some roads will closed and parking restrictions are already in place for this event.

Lloret de Mar - Lovers Locks

It seems that we now have the 'lovers lock' custom taking place in Lloret de Mar. Its said that if a couple fasten a lock on which they have etched or marked with their initials then throw the key into the water as a sign of their love for each other then they will one day return to the place of their lock. The custom is seen in many  cities around the world but where this custom started I dont know! The locks pictured here can be seen fastened to the chain by the Dona Marinera statue in Lloret, at the moment there are just a few so lets see how many are placed there over the coming months!

Andalucian day in Lloret de Mar

We certainly had a busy day in Lloret yesterday with 2 events taking place on the same day! First of all we went over to photograph all the horses in the parade on Lloret seafront, from there we headed straight up to the street party by the Granada Bar where there was a special Andalucian day with all kinds of entertainment going on! Visitors and officials from the small pueblo of I'llorra in the province of Granada were here for their special day.

Hundreds of people filled the street, eating, drinking and dancing, chairs were set out in front of the stage where for the entertainment  programme which went on from morning till night. The air was filled with the delicious smell of butifarras on the BBQs which were being served with bread and glass after glass of wine and beer, sadly we didn't dare sample any as our next stop was to Sunday lunch at Rabbies bar!
Many of the ladies were dressed in Flamenco dress which were in every colour you could imagine...I dont think I've ever seen so much colour in one place!
