Santa Claus arrives in Lloret!

The Santa Claus parade around Lloret de Mar started from Fenals at 4.30pm today and was watched by many of the locals in Fenals as it made its way over to Lloret. Tomorrows parade will commence at the same time and begin near Lloret's beach at Roca d'en Maig. (opposite end of the beach to the castle) see the map below.

Christmas events in Lloret

Taking place today and tomorrow is the very popular Santa Claus parade which starts its journey around the cente of Lloret from the children's playground in Fenals at 4.30pm. As from tomorrow 24th  Dec until 11th January you can see a small exhibition of various religious scenes - Dioramas, these will be on show in the small church next to  Gerrys Bar in Lloret centre. Hours are 10am - 2pm and 4pm - 8pm.

Lloret Christmas Toy Market

After the much publicised toy market taking place over this weekend I'm sorry to say it wasnt one of Llorets greatest ideas. Posters were posted on walls and boards all over town to advertise it but nothing special was taking place at all just 3-4 stalls with a few toys for sale and someone blowing up balloons to give out to the kids. In my opinion it was just a ploy to try get people to use the market over the Christmas period...very disappointing!

Dont forget the Christmas toy market takes place in Lloret's indoor market Saturday & Sunday 21st & 22nd December selling toys, books, games, and clothing....its sure to be a special treat for all the kids!

Christmas shopping in Lloret

Out in Lloret de Mar centre tonight and the shops are all nicely decorated for Christmas but the streets are still very quiet. Most hotels are closed but some will be opening shortly for the guests who have booked for their Xmas and  New Year holidays.

Several of the shops have good offers on just now hoping to draw people though their doors to spend as much cash as possible. In Spain however the 'Christmas shopping' will carry on until the 5th January as the main day for exchanging gifts is the Day of the Kings on the 6th.  

 

 

 

Lloret de Mar at Christmas

On the run upto Christmas in Lloret this year the weather is still very good, today however its very dull and cloudy but still a very mild 16ºc. The evening time is when the chill really sets in and it feels very cold and damp with almost 100% humidity, so if your spending some time in Lloret over the Christmas holiday then you will need your winter woolies and coats!

 

Fenals fire update

Latest news about  the fire which broke out in an apartment in Fenals last Saturday is that it accidentally started in the kitchen of the apartment on the 4th floor. Everyone was evacuated no one was hurt but a dog belonging to one of the neighbours sadly died. Looking at the apartment since the fire it looks as though its completely gutted.

Christmas in Blanes

 Blanes have been holding a weekend Christmas market during the month of December so I went along there this weekend to take a look around. It is very similar to the markets that are held in Lloret at this time of year but one thing I do like to see in Blanes is the large nativity set they have every year. A lot of work goes into the making and setting up of the almost lifelike models which will be on show until early January. The market however will take place again this coming weekend 27-29th December and open all day.

Fire in Fenals today

A fire has broke out in an apartment block above the Leman Restaurant on Avenida Americas in Fenals at about 4.15pm this afternoon. From our apartment balcony it looked very bad as the smoke was pouring out of the apartments windows and also from  air vents on the roof, as yet I don't have any more details but I will give an update as soon as possible.

Christmas Events in Lloret

This weekend there are 2 events taking place in Lloret, firstly there will be a series of free musical concerts taking place in the church during December, tomorrow evenings concert will begin at 8pm. Secondly on Sunday in the church square starting at 9am is the medicinal fair organised by the Xino Xano walking group. Here you can buy a wide range of goods and produce from herbs and remedies for different ailments to wines, jams, honey, home grown veg, cakes, loaves of bread of all shapes and sizes!
