Lloret de Mar Carrefoc event

Thousands of people filled the streets around the town hall last night to see this years 'Carrefoc' - an exciting event which is held every year as part of the Santa Cristina Festival. Everyone gathered at the town hall at 10pm where drummers played before the fireworks started.

Not to be confused with the popular organised fireworks display we see on Lloret beach every year - this does look to be quite an unruly event where those taking part run along the streets letting off fireworks just above the crowds heads....but a lot of thought does seem to have gone into the event to make it as safe as possible. On seeing the photos you wouldn't think that it is well organised with fire safety personnel and vehicles following them all the way, although I'm sure accidents must have happened in the past. Those taking part are advised to wear jackets, hoods, full length trousers and full shoes.....some are dressed as  Devils and other spooky and scary characters!

These photos taken just last night 19th July between the hour of 8.30pm and 11pm show how busy Lloret is just now...it was a slow start to the season but Lloret de Mar has that familiar buzz about town once again!

A Visit to Playa de Aro

A treat for the boating fans taking their holidays in Lloret de Mar would be a trip up the coast to the town of Playa de Aro. To the south of the resort is a beautiful marina where you can take a stroll to view all the boats which range from the smallest sail boat to the larger and much more expensive yachts. At Playa de Aro there is also a fantastic shopping area so maybe this could be a good opportunity for the ladies to go shopping while the men do a bit of wishful thinking while taking a look around the marina at the boats!

What a strange place to plant such a large tree - on the roof terrace of this apartment block, I'm glad I don't live on the next floor down!

A stroll along the seafront!

Here are a few recent pics taken along the seafront in Lloret...

In the first picture you can see the yellow L2 bus, a very handy service if you need to travel between Lloret de Mar and Fenals and you dont fancy the walk! At present the fare is €1.35.
In the second picture are the kiosks where to book your boat trips to other beaches and resorts such as Tossa de Mar, Blanes, and Calella.

Here we have part of the nightlife area which comes to life late at night and closes as the day breaks!

To get away from the heat of the sun you can take a stroll through the older streets towards the back of town....some are lined with colourful trees giving lots of shade.

Americanos Fira 2015

Starting today Friday 12th and going on until Sunday 14th June is the 5th edition of the Americanos event when we see how people from Lloret de Mar traveled to Cuba and the West Indies to earn their fortunes. Many of them did and on their return to Lloret built the large buildings and homes we can still see today on the seafront and in the older streets in the centre of town.

Read more about the Americanos here

Views of Lloret

From the Roca Grossa urbanisation at the back of Lloret there are many view points from which to look down over the town and get some great shots. Lloret has so many different areas to see, from here you can see the villas and homes of Roca Grossa and the older part of town in the centre.  The taller buildings are the residential/ holiday apartments and hotels, you then have views of the coast with the boats out at sea and in the far distance is the next resort of Blanes.
