More From HarleyButts.

More photos today from the HarleyButts Rally. Today is the final of the events, hopefully it wont be the final rally. They certainly added a bit of colour and life to Lloret de Mar while they were here!

Below are some of the bikers probably setting off on one of the arranged trips on the Costa Brava roads.

Lloret de Mar - HarleyButts Rally

Just for starters, here's just a few of the customised Harley Davidson bikes on show in Lloret today. It looked like a successful 1st day for the rally with good weather for the planned events.

You can even buy a bike of your own...a snip at only €23,000 !!

Harley Davidson Rally in Lloret de Mar.

Arriving in Lloret de Mar this weekend are hundreds of bikers from all over Europe for the Harley Butts Bike Rally. They are already getting the various stands etc in place in front of the town hall, with quite a few bikes lined up on show. The event takes place Fri5th - Sun 7th The last Harley Rally which took place in Lloret was the offical H.O.G Rally back in 2000, which was a huge success with bikes of all shapes, sizes and designs. So if this event is half as good it will be a fantastic weekend for all!

Come back to this page later over the week end to see photos of the bikes.

The Credit Crunch !

euros

Even the criminals in Spain are feeling the credit crunch!

I recently saw reported in a Spanish newspaper that a former bank robber who has had a clean record for 30yrs has been charged with 4 robberies this year.
He says he was forced out of retirement because of the recession!

Holiday in Spain Promotions!

Spain is to set up promotional campaigns in Britain to try boost tourism for this year. The reason behind this is the 22% drop in bookings from the UK market during the first 3 months of this year

''A Taste of Spain'' promotions are to be held in open air festivals in large cities such as London and Edinburgh. These will include all things which we associate with Spain, such as Flamenco Dancers, Spanish horses will be performing and giant paellas will be on the festival menus!

Santa Clotilde Gardens

Despite the bad weather which we had in April, its estimated that the figures for visitors to Santa Clotilde Gardens were well up on last year.

More than 11,000 people have visited the gardens, 4,000 more than the same period last year! All together the total for the first 4 months was 23,000. The most likely reason is that the El Punt newspaper have a scheme which allows their readers free entry to the gardens and Museo del Mar.

Lloret de Mar Boats

All the boats taking holiday makers up and down the coast to the other resorts are now back for the summer season. The most popular seems to be the larger and more powerful Dofi Jet as seen in the top photo. At this time of year you can travel as far as Tossa de Mar up the coast or Blanes further to the south. As the town gets busier then the boats will be sailing to other resorts further up and down the coast.

Lloret de Mar Today

This holiday weekend has been quite busy in Lloret with many visitors in town. It seems that most people in town are French, along with the Spanish who usually head for the coast every weekend. The weather has been excellent with no signs of it changing this week. If the forecast on the TV this morning is correct then temperatures are on the way up for the middle of the week.

Lloret de Mar Shopping

I wonder if we have a new annual event starting in Loret?

Yesterday [1st May] a large market was held in the El Reiral district, and it was packed! This is now the new location of the weekly market held on Tuesdays, much better than the old site behind the Casino. I gave up going to that one during the summer ages ago it was just impossible to get round!

The 1st of May has always been a day when all [or most] of the shops have closed and the streets around town have been deserted, but yesterday was a different matter. The large supermarkets were closed but just about all the other shops were open and the market it seemed was a huge success. It was a real treat to see many different stalls and real bargains to be had with lots of stalls selling good quality clothes at bargain prices.

The best market I've seen in Lloret yet !

Just when we thought summer was here !

After a really unsettled start to the holiday season, Thursday was the warmest day so far this year. Local temperatures were 23c, so quite a few people headed for the beach. Today was a little cooler with a slight breeze but still warm enough to top up your tan! These 2 photos were taken today showing just a few holidaymakers on Fenals beach...BUT rain is forecast again for the beginning of the week!

We did see one group of lads in their mid 20s or 30s who are here on holiday from the UK, and some of them looked as though they had awfully bad sunburn. Possibly after falling asleep on the beach! One of them could hardly walk his legs and feet were that badly burnt. So if you are due to come on holiday, be careful if you haven't been in the sun for a while, it may feel quite cool in the shade but the sun is still very strong.

Lloret de Mar Weather.

Just over the last last few days in Lloret the weather has been really miserable with rain almost everyday. Here is the forecast for the coming week, it is looking a little better with just one more day of rain forecast for the 7th April. This will be good news for the Easter holidaymakers, hopefully the sunshine will make another appearance shortly!

Ryanair Flights

Ryanair are to shortly start a daily flight from Girona to Seville. This is a fantastic city with loads of history. After having spent the last few weeks in Southern Spain, I did visit Seville for the day, and can recommend a trip there. Seville is one of the oldest cities in Spain with magnificent buildings and monuments.

More news from Ryanair is that they are also planning flights into Barcelona from the UK, this will probably be bad news for Girona airport as approx 50% of their arrivals into Girona travel onwards to Barcelona.
So lets hope they dont reduce the Girona flights.

Stormy Weather in Lloret.

Recent storms on the Costa Brava over the Christmas period caused havoc to the coast line. I heard that one of the boats which travel up and down between the resorts was all smashed up on the beach down in Blanes, unfortunately I wasn't able to get there to take photos. My husband Steve went down to Fenals beach to see what damage was done there, these are the photo's he took.

Branches had snapped off the trees, the sea had come over the wall onto the walkway and in some places broken down the wall and brought up the tiles.
