Lloret Medieval Fiesta 2013

Today is the last day of this years Medieval Festival in Lloret and judging by the massive crowds it attracted its been a huge success once again. We were there this morning to take more photos but it proved quite difficult at times as it was even busier than yesterday. Well done to all the stall holders and those who were taking part in the entertainment they brought a great atmosphere to the town and put on a great show!

One of the birds of prey which were on show..just look at those beautiful eyes!

These cakes look good enough to eat but each one is made out of material and all hand sewn!

Lloret Medieval Event 2013

The 2013 Medieval event has got off to a lively start today with hundreds of people in the streets slowly edging their way from stall to stall. This is an event that takes place every year in Lloret and seems to get better each time. Street entertainers are everywhere dressed in all sorts of fancy costumes - some are really weird and scary looking as these photos show!
How they walk around on these legs I've no idea!

 Lunch is served!

The smell of food been cooked on the large open barbeques fills the air, we didnt try any today but providing the weather stays fine tomorrow I know where we'll be having lunch!

Birds of prey were on show but its possibly the last year we will see these and the childrens donkey rides. The use of animals in these sort of events is now considered cruel, which I totally agree with!

Death of Craig Mallon - an update

I have received an email from David Swindle giving details about how the investigation into Craig's death is going to date. The story has generated some recent local media interest mainly from the Diari de Girona newspaper and the local radio station with David doing an interview with Nova Radio which was broadcast earlier this week, they will also include the story on their website. The following piece seen below was published in the Diari de Girona newspaper on the 5th November.
The Facebook page and website http://craigmallon.com/ are still asking for people to come forward who were in Lloret de Mar the day/night when Craig lost his life back in May 2012. Any information would be gratefully received.

Lloret - morning, noon and night!

A set of photos from Fenals today with two scenes from the beach this morning - almost deserted today!

This small cruise ship was passing by quite close to the shore this afternoon so I just managed to get these photos from our balcony

The last photo from today has to be this stunning shot of tonights sunset, again taken from our balcony.....

Lloret de Mar - Fenals

Just a few minutes walk from where we live brings us to this amazing location just above the beach of Fenals. Today we had ideal conditions with blue sky and just a few scattered clouds which enabled us to get these shots looking from the bay of Fenals right down the coast towards Blanes.

Lloret de Mar in November

A view of the castle
Yesterday I posted a piece about the summer season coming to a close for many businesses, but as todays photos from the beaches of Fenals and Lloret show the weather for this holiday weekend is far from coming to an end. Todays temperature reached a high 23ºc giving the towns visitors the opportunity to spend time on the beach or take a leisurely stroll along the seafront.

End of the season in Lloret

We are now getting close to the end of the season in Lloret de Mar meaning that many of the bars, restaurants and hotels will shortly be closing their doors for the winter, most of which will not reopen until the start of next season.
Moby's club on the main strip in Lloret has now closed their doors for a few weeks - quite unusual for them as they do normally stay open all year, so the main strip will look very different this winter without the bright lights from Moby's. Clubs on the strip which do remain open will only do so at weekends.
One of our favourite places which we visit on a regular basis is Route 66, owners Andy & Jackie will close this weekend, we will miss them the most as we love their menu especially the English breakfasts and fish & chips!

Everyone who is taking part in the event will be dressed in medieval style clothing they will be putting on exhibitions of ancient crafts - glass blowing, metal work, shoe making, along with bird of prey shows, children's games and donkey rides. Roasted chestnuts, cakes, breads, massive barbecues with tasty steaks, ribs, burgers and sausages will be on sale with plenty of wines and ancient potions to wash it all down!

Lloret de Mar today

What a difference a day makes!

Todays photos from the beach in Lloret de Mar show just how quickly the scene can change. After yesterdays temperatures in the mid 20s today it barely reached 19ºc with no sign of the sun all day, so to those of us that live here it was a sudden shock to the system! The only visitors to the deserted beach today were the boat passengers waiting for the boat to take them back to Tossa de Mar and the usual flocks of seagulls!

A day in Lloret de Mar

With another fine day in Lloret yesterday morning we had a walk down to Fenals beach where the sea was quite rough and the yellow flags were flying warning that the sea could be dangerous and people should take extra care. Temperatures again were in the mid 20s and clear blue skies, so itsgreat weather for the holiday makers this week.

After working up an appetite with our morning walk our afternoon was spent with friends at the Can Sabata Masia Restaurant where they have daily menus of either €9.50 or €15, we all chose the €9.50 option which also includes wine and bread. There is a very spacious covered outdoor dining area at the restaurant but we always prefer to eat indoors. The total cost of our meal was just less than €73 - for six people, that is great value for money as we all had a coffee after our meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed!
