A visit to Pinya de Rosa Gardens

In a beautiful setting between Lloret de Mar and Blanes are the gardens of Pinya de Rosa, here you can see more than 7,000 types of cacti, palms and plants from various places around the world. The gardens are easily reachable by the open tour bus from Lloret or Blanes. Opening hours are 9am - 5pm every day, entrance fee at present is €4 for adult & a reduced rate of €3 for pensioners & students. This is one of the places which I recommend you to visit if time will allow during your stay in the local area, especially when the cacti are in flower during the spring/early summer.

St George's Day in Lloret de Mar

Happy Saint George's day to everyone!

Saint George (Sant Jordi) is the Patron Saint of Catalonia so not only is this special day celebrated in England but also here in every Catalan town and village. The tradition here is that gifts of books and roses are exchanged by couples, partners, family members, and friends so out on the streets and town squares the shops and specially erected stalls are selling books of just about every topic under the sun and gifts of single stems or small arrangements of roses.
These photos show the colourful stalls in Lloret de Mar today.
