Easter in Lloret de Mar

This Easter weekend we have seen many more places opening up for business for the season and also the town is much more lively as people are now wanting to take a much needed break from the cold weather at home! The holiday weekend weather could have been better here but it has been quite mild so it hasn't kept visitors from venturing out and enjoying the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and all the beautiful coastal scenery that Lloret de Mar has to offer.

Costa Brava Rally, Lloret 2016

The 13th edition of the Costa Brava Rally is happening in Lloret de Mar this weekend 17-20 March. The cars can be seen along the sea front and also near the entrance of Waterworld. The route of the rally is 1,000 kms around the roads of Catalunya, the awards and closing ceremony will take place on the podium located by the Town Hall on Sunday at approx 12noon.  

What to do in Lloret

Every 2nd Sunday of the month in Lloret an interesting market is held, stalls selling antiques and collectable items can be found in the large square where the carousel is. Also for the car enthusiasts a small collection of classic cars are on show. Trading usually starts around 10am until 1pm.

A day In Caldes de Malavella

 Only 20 minutes or so drive from Lloret is a nice little town which is famous for its water, just about every bottle of water with gas (agua con gas) which you buy from the bars, cafes and restaurants in this area would come from the Caldes area. The most famous one goes under the brand of Vichy Catalan, other brands from Caldes are Agua Malavella and Sant Narciso, each brand has their own unique taste....my favorite is the Vichy brand. Their very grand restaurant/hotel are set in beautiful grounds...see the first 2 photos here. 

Summer is just around the corner!

 Slowly but surely the resort is starting to come to live after the winter, today we can see that some businesses have already opened while many are doing a bit of painting, decorating and maintenance in preparation for the new season. Most will be open in time for Easter at the end of  March.

Festival of the cats 2016

This weekend we can see some amazing entertainment in town with the Festival of Cats. There will be a full programme during this weekend 28-29th Feb, with music, singing, dancing and competitions taking place in the town hall square, theatre, Guitart Central Park hotel and the Russian tourist office at Passeig Verdaguer.

A change in the weather!

Well! after a very mild and dry winter we have had rain at last...but it is still quite mild. The sea has also been very rough today and again its taken much of the sand away from the beach, and the streets are deserted owing to this very damp and dismal weather!

Lloret de Carnival parade 2016

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch Saturdays carnival parade this year....and as usual we were there to photograph the floats and those taking part in their colourful costumes. Here are a few of our best shots....

A day in Vic

Vic is a beautiful medieval town in Catalonia, it's huge Plaza Mayor hosts many popular events throughout the year and twice a week (Tuesday & Saturday) you can visit one of the biggest and best markets around! Best buys are clothing, household items and also Catalan sausage and delicious fuet which Vic is very famous for. This picturesque square is surrounded by some very interesting buildings shops, restaurants, bars and cafes...easily reachable by bus (from Girona) or car its well worth a visit!

Carnival time in Lloret

How fast it comes around!

Yes, its February and Carnival time just about everywhere in Spain. This year it is all happening this weekend in Lloret, starting on Friday there are several events all linked to the carnival taking place, the official start will be the evening of Friday 5th Feb in front of the Town Hall...and again in the same square Saturday from 10.30 until 13.30 there will be more fun events which all the family can take part in.

The first of the 2 parades will take place at 4pm on Saturday and then you have another chance to see the full parade again at midday on Sunday.
On Wednesday 10th Feb we can see the close of the carnival with the 'Burial of the Sardine' around the Town Hall and beach area.
