Lloret de Mar Clon Festival 2011

At last the names for this years Clon Festival are finally out!
For those not familiar with this festival, its one of the biggest and best annual events in Lloret de Mar. Some of the best tribute acts are on stage in the Placa Pere Torrent (carousel square) starting in a few days time on 8th July with Achtung Band a tribute to U2. The next band to play on 22nd July will be a tribute to Abba with Abba Revival. This is the second time here for this Abba tribute band, we last saw them in August 2004, an excellent show! Next on stage 5th August will be the Exploding Boys - a strange name for a tribute to the Cure (or maybe not!)
On 19th August is the fourth and final act for this year and will be Gansos Rosas,  if you can't guess this will be a Guns & Roses tribute act...I'm looking forward to that one!
If you are in or near Lloret for any of theses dates you really must try get to see at least one of the acts. It is a free show, you can buy drinks and a bite to eat such as burgers and hot dogs at the kiosks in the square. The shows usually start at 10.30 and go on until about midnight.
Go to the LLORET STUFF WEBSITE   to see photos from previous Clon Festival events.

Lloret de Mar - Dragster's Moto Group

Each year in Catalonia is the festival of San Juan, when bonfires all over the region are lit with the Flama del Canigo. Just as they did last year the Dragsters Moto Group travelled out to Vidreres to bring the flame back to Lloret in order to light the towns bonfire....
.
....this must have been a great honor for the bike riders and their passengers!

  Victor and Dolores.

They certainly got a small crowd watching as they set off on their journey out to Vidreras with a police escort. In the photo above is Victor and his wife Dolores - You can normally catch Victor working with his brother Oscar on the beach in Fenals with the Watersports centre.

Lloret - Fenals Beach

Photos taken on our local beach in Fenals over the weekend, showing that the people are now starting to enjoy the warmer sea temperatures. Air temps are also better after a bit of unsettled weather at the beginning of June. From Fenals beach you can take a walk up through the woods and get some great views of the rocky coves along the coast from the cliff tops.....just don't get too near the edge as it is quite dangerous, keep a close eye on your children and dogs!

Lloret de Mar Events

A little bit of history came to Lloret this week end with an event dedicated to people from Lloret in the late19th century who travelled over to the Americas and made their fortune, after which they returned and changed the look of Lloret forever by using their wealth to build many of the buildings and monuments we can still see in the town today. A few are the town hall, Museum del Mar and some of the larger buildings along the seafront, streets in the older parts of town and also in the cemetry at the back of town.

Figueres - Birthplace of Dali

Dali's Theatre
Just a short journey up the coast from Lloret de Mar is the town of Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dali. If you have the use of a car then its easily reached in about 1 hour or so but by public transport you would first have to make your way to Girona then travel by either bus or train from there. Whichever way this is a day not to be missed! All the main sights are situated close to the town centre so are easily reached on foot, also there are lots of cafes, and restaurants where you can take a break from the busy little streets and shops, many of which sell gifts and souvenirs based on the art works of Dali.

St Peter's Church
The town of Figueres itself is a photographers paradise but beware if you go into the museum, you are not allowed to take any photos without first applying for permission! Visit the official web site here....Dali Museum.

Lloret de Mar - Boadella Beach

After nearly a week of very unsettled weather in Lloret it now seems to be getting back to normal. We woke this morning to blue sky and a just a few light clouds, there was another storm last night which we hope has now cleared the air...so time to get out the camera for some more photos!

These photos were taken at approximately 11 am this morning and show three views of Boadella beach which is easily reached with a 30-40 minutes walk through the woods from Lloret or Fenals. In the bottom photo you can see the Santa Clotilde gardens on the cliff tops above the beach, this is a great place to visit to get some stunning shots of the coast....something a lot of people don't associate with Lloret de Mar!

Lloret de Mar Supermarkets

If you are visiting Lloret de Mar for the first time then you may be wondering which are the best supermarkets in which to do the bulk of your shopping and where are they! If your staying in an apartment and intend to make quite a few of your meals indoors rather than eat out then its always worth trying to find out where the locals do their shopping and where to get the best value for money.
I have put together a list and map of what I and most of the local residents in Lloret  consider to be the most popular supermarkets in Lloret complete with a few details about each one. Just click on the image below to take you on a tour of Llorets supermarkets!
